Description
Turnip is a very common and widely known vegetable. Its most common variety, the white turnip (Brassica rapa var. rapa), is basically a root vegetable, like the radish. Turnips have a large variety of recipes. They may be used in a large number of ways, in a number of different dishes. Some of the common forms in which it is used are:

  1. The turnip is cut into small pieces after washing it properly, and these can be used in various vegetable salads, especially if it is a baby turnip. They may also be cut into larger pieces, depending on the type of dish for which it is to be used.

Generally, while storing the turnips, they are wax coated so as to keep them healthy and in shape, as also ward away pests. After you purchase these turnips from the market, it is advised that you should peel away the wax, as they may contain harmful chemicals. Most people do no do that, which may be harmful to your health.

After you have purchased the turnips, store it in a plastic bag inside the refrigerator. It is advisable to keep it in the drawer where it is crispier. Some of the refrigerators nowadays even have their own vegetable boxes, designed to keep the vegetables fresh and healthy for a longer period of time. You can also place the turnip in a sealed container or plastic bag. However, as is true for all vegetables, the faster you consume it, the better quality it will be. The longer you store it, the more nutrients it losses, and becomes limp.
