How to gain meditative state with sound?

The most important thing here is to make a time and space you can consider your own and then practice breathing and relaxing techniques that eases yourself into the state of meditation. Meditation helps in bringing the body into homeostasis (perfect and balanced state of body, mind and soul). Let us now learn how the sound helps here…

Sounds play crucial role in achieving the state of meditation according to yoga gurus. An effortless sound when produced in the harmony of natural breathing rhythm gets the same soothing, mentally liberating effects exactly what comes from the natural sounds of waterfall, beating heart or rustling leaves. The single utterance of ‘mantra’ is advised by the gurus to blot out the confab of eternal thoughts and that allows the mind to get into calmer and peaceful state.

Typically, to gain meditative state with sound it is important to practice it with particular utterance or sound. While the sound need not be a specific word, yoga and meditation gurus precisely tells about the sound of the word ‘calm’ to be spoken or thought while practicing an ideal meditation or dhyana. The word is spoken with expiration (exhalation) and it works very well. Especially at times when imagining tension going out of the body, mind and soul this type of feeling is important.

While any word would serve the purpose, uttering ‘Aum’ brings a lot of benefits with it as suggested in holy books of Ayurveda, Patanjali (yoga) and other Vedas and Upanishadas. What we find about Aum in Wikipedia is –it is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as a sacred incantation to be intoned at the beginning and end of a reading of the Vedas or prior to any prayer or mantra. The Māndukya Upanishad is entirely devoted to the explanation of the syllable. The syllable consists of three phonemes, a Vaishvanara, Hiranyagarbha and Iswara, which symbolize the beginning, duration, and dissolution of the universe and the associated gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, respectively.

Through meditation, one can achieve the state of homeostasis. Holistic healing practitioners in South East Asian countries and India believe that dhyana can do wonders and help boosting the immunity if practiced regularly and precisely. According to sciences like Chinese Oriental Medicines, Unani and Ayurveda most of the health ailments’ signs and symptoms occur due to weakened mind. Said this, an individual with strong brain would be able to withstand any circumstances including problems of health, tension, stress and difficult situations where you find yourself in between the devil and deep blue sea.
