Ayurvedic Fruit Salad

Fruit salads made in Ayurvedic way can help restoring the ill health and also maintain it. The fruits contain jeev rasa (vital juices) that contribute vitality to the body and thus considered to be very healthy diet. Let us learn one of the popular Ayurvedic fruit salad that not only improves the digestion but also rejuvenate the body systems, especially cardiovascular and digestive.

For this Ayurvedic fruit salad, you can use any soft fruit available in season. Preferably, select the fruit that can add a tangy medley of flavor, the best follow-on to a spicy main food course.

Preparation Time: One and a half hour approximately


  1. 1 big ripened Mango
  2. 100 gm of black grapes (preferably seedless and cut in half)
  3. 100 gm of green grapes (preferably seedless and cut in half)
  4. 150 gm of peaches (preferably skinned and sliced)
  5. 125 gm of strawberries (according to their sizes, cut in half or quarters)
  6. A pinch of Cayenne Pepper
  7. 25 gm of unsweetened dried coconut
  8. 30 gm caster sugar
  9. A pinch of Mustard powder
  10. Salt to taste

Preparation Method:

Prep: 1 hour 20 min and Cooking for: 9 min

Step 1: To begin with Ayurvedic fruits salad, peel the mango first. Then cut away mangoes’ flesh and thinly slice them.

Step 2: The next step for this fruits salad is put the mango into a large bowl preferably stainless steel. Add the black and green grapes, and other fruits (strawberries and peaches). Keep it separate.

Step 3: After step 2, finely grind the coconut in a grinder (but better in spice mill). Alternatively, you can also go for a pestle and mortar.

Step 4: Add the sugar, mustard powder, Cayenne Pepper, and a pinch of salt.

Step 5: Mix the content well.

Step 6: Add the coconut mixture into the fruit mix. Stir the whole content well, cover and place in the fridge to chill. This may take approximately an hour or so. You can also keep it for overnight. This allows the flavors to blend and mature.

Step 7: Remove the dish and take it into use.

Ayurvedic Fruit Salad Health Benefits:
Coconut has property to calm down the pitta dosha and hence helps in reducing the body heat. Grapes come under the rejuvenation (rasayana dravyas) category and hence can be taken for those who feel weak. Fruit salad is full of vitamins and minerals (ascorbic acid and other vitamins) and hence helps in boosting immunity.

Cayenne Pepper and mustard help in improving the digestion power and restore the peristalsis movement if interrupted for any reason. Abdominal cramps and indigestion cases can have Ayurvedic fruits salad recipe as one of the dietary regimens.
