A Day at Dal lake, Srinagar

The most mesmerizing place of Srinagar is Dal lake, hands down. The best way to enjoy the serenity of this lake would be to take some time off and just go and sit on the banks of the lake. See the locals ferrying around on their shikaras as well as the tourists enjoying their rides in the decorated and colorful Shikaras. You can find even floating shops of photographers, jewelers and not to forget to mention the floating post office.

Take a walk on the pavement made around the Dal lake and enjoy the attention that you gain from the shikara drivers to lure you to enjoy their shikara rides. And in case you plan to take the Shikara ride then enjoy the cool breeze, beautiful surroundings as well as the welcome calls from shop owners at the market floating on Dal lake. Also do enjoy the intricate wooden carvings on the houseboats. I loved the way these locals have named their houseboats and shikaras. It seems they have a strong liking for English and lyrical names. I did observe that these locals take pride in decorating their Shikaras with best of upholstery as well as brightest of the colors.
